Academic career

Prof. Dr. Betteke van Noort studied Psychology (BSc) at Maastricht University and completed a Research Master in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience (MSc) with a focus on Neuropsychology. She conducted research and taught at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin until 2018 and earned her PhD from the University of Potsdam in 2017.

She completed her clinical training and obtained her license as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist (behavioral therapy) in 2022. Since 2017, she has been active in psychotherapy policy, including roles in the German Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists (BPtK), the association bvvp, and the expert committee for the practice-oriented structured clinical examination in psychotherapy (aoPP) at the IMPP.

From 2019 to 2023, she worked at the Medical School Berlin before being appointed Professor of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and Psychotherapy at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg in March 2026. Her work focuses on mental disorders, prevention, and psychotherapeutic care in childhood and adolescence. She also heads the university outpatient clinic for psychotherapy with children and adolescents.

  • Mental disorders in childhood and adolescence (including eating disorders and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders)
  • Effects of victimization experiences (including children in out-of-home care)
  • Intervention research (e.g., EMPOWER YOUTH)
  • Sexuality and sexual orientation in adolescence
